  TVR Cerbera

The Cerbera was TVRs first successful 2+2 coupe. Although a Wedge 2+2 had been made back in the eighties that sold in very few numbers. The Cerbera however has sold by the hundred.

The design is based on a Chimaera which has been stretched to provide the extra room in the rear. Don't labour under any misconceptions though - those are strictly occasional seats or for children only!

The big news on the launch of the Cerbera was the introduction of the AJP V8 engine. Designed in conjunction with engine guru Al Melling, the 4.2 litre V8 produced over 350bhp. It is a particularly small and light unit and sounds unique thanks to a 'flat plane' crank.

A 4.5 litre version was introduced later with a claimed output of 420bhp and a top speed of around 190mph. The power delivery of the V8 is unique and thrilling. This is a car that simply explodes up the road when you put your foot down!

When TVR finished designing their own straight six engine this too was used in the Cerbera. The concept was that it would be more of a grand tourer than the brutal V8 cars and it was fitted with fatter tyres to smooth out the ride. The V8 models remain the most common however.

Later models were fitted with a multiple lamp arrangement at the front and TVR introduced the 'lightweight' which benefited from use of different materials to reduce the weight of the bodywork.

A 800bhp V12 version of the Cerbera was produced for the race track but never made it onto the road except for a single demonstrator.
