TVR Tuscan
After receiving a great reception at two motorshows, customer Tuscans started to roll off the Blackpool production lines in 2000. Fitted with TVR's in house designed Speed 6 engine, the Tuscan was the first of a new generation of TVRs.
Gone was the reliance on the Rover V8 and here was a modern, smooth straight six. TVR boss Peter Wheeler was a long time fan of straight six engines has built the whole modern range of cars around this unit.
The first cars were fitted with four litre engines producing around 360bhp. An upgrade pack known as a 'Red Rose' conversion was made available later which consisted of upgrades to the engine to take it to 380bhp or more along with suspension and brake upgrades.
In 2001 the range was modified to bring in a new standard Tuscan with a 3.6 litre engine (350bhp) and the "Tuscan S" was introduced as the more powerful version. This featured a rear spoiler, different rear lights (no indicators on the roll bar) and 4.0 litre straight six with around 390bhp. It also benefits from uprated brakes and suspension.
TVR chose the 2004 Motor Show to introduce the Tuscan 2. This received revised front and rear lights. The interior also got a makeover with a new dashboard design. The Tuscan S was treated to a new front spoiler and swoopy new rear spoiler.
The biggest news of the show though was the introduction of the convertible Tuscan. The car gets roll bars behind the seats and a bigger boot to accomodate the top roof section. The rear section of the roof folds down as on the Chimaeras and Griffiths.
